Hearing Aid - FAQ

You can directly visit an Audiologist to get your hearing tested. Your Audiologist will then prescribe the hearing aids suitable for your hearing loss, lifestyle and budget.

If you buy hearing aids directly from ENT shops or other places without an Audiologist, you may be provided unsuitable or non programmable or poorly programmed hearing aids.

Using programmable hearing aids, an audiologist can modify the device settings using a computer to exactly suit your hearing profile.

Non programmable hearing aids are generic aids which can't be programmed according to your hearing loss. Audiologists can't modify any setting in case if it is not suitable for your ears.

If your audiogram is signed by an Audiologist, we can provide, program and fit hearing aid. If your audiogram is not signed by an Audiologist, we will perform the hearing tests again (for free!) by our Audiologits before fitting the hearing aid. This is to ensure you get the suitable hearing aid and program settings.

No. Your Audiologist selects a hearing aid based on your hearing loss, lifestyle and most importantly budget. Typically expensive hearing aids will have more features like bluetooth connectivity, rechargeability, handling various listening situations etc. You can choose hearing aids with only the features you need to reduce the overall cost.

An ENT specialist can refer you for hearing aid trial if you have hearing loss. But they don't choose a specific hearing aid brand/ model as it is not their domain of expertise. Audiologist is the only person who is qualified to prescribe suitable hearing aids based on your hearing profile.

If you have hearing loss, you need to visit an audiologist who is the best person to prescribe a suitable hearing aid based on the hearing loss. Once you decide to purchase, your Audiologist will program the hearing aid and you may undergo 1-2 hours of fitting and verification procedures using specialised equipments so that you get maximum benefit of the hearing aid purchased. If you buy online, you will not get these services resulting in poorly performing hearing aid.

Hearing Aid fitting will take 1-2 hours. Your audiologist have specialised equipments/ procedures to verify your hearing so that you attain maximum speech clarity under different listening situations. Most of the hearing aids sold at ENT/ shops may not have an audiologist or necessary equipments to perform those tests and those aids are fitted within 10-15 mins leading to unsatisfied users.

The average life of a hearing aid is around 5 years. If you find any issue with performance over the years, you can always visit an Audiologist for reprogramming or repair.

If your hearing aid is functioning properly to suit your needs and if you don't need any additional features, then there is no need for upgrade. But you can always try the latest platform to see if it offers better hearing or additional features you need before upgrading.
